#23 (week 9) Is this really the end? Or just the beginning ...

In the end, I found this journey very informative. Now my perception has widened and now I understand what potential resources are on the internet. I am now a little more confortable with blogging and viewing unfamiliar webpages. Before I was rather frightened as I don't use the internet for such purposes other than emailing people. Now I have learnt a range of skills, that I can hopefully pass onto others. I have somewhat grasped an insight, to the endless cabalities the internet offers us. However this learning curve was a large wall that I just managed to overcome. After all my ejoyment for computer usage has risen from my prior minimal level.
Now I personally enjoy using computers more than i did before(letter James was my favourite). As a result I can blog and understand some workings of webpages.

#22 (Week 9). eBooks, eAudio books and downloadable media (or "The end is in sight ")

Downloadable Media's webpage layout was easy to look at. I liked it more than Auckland City Libraries' eBooks and eAudio books digital collection. Even though i selected certain titles as favourites, they weren't genuinely my favourite. Despite that, I would still recommend those titles to people who are interested in Angelina Jolie's Biography,Peru, memory skills, alternative medicine or to reclaim joy and spontaneity in life.

#21 (Week 9). Podcasts (You don’t need an iPod!)

I personally didn't find anything very interesting in my discovery process. This is because of my general view towards technology. Despite technology being very useful, I wouldn't use if for blogging and finding podcasts. As I have only recently been introduced and learnt new things, it was another good learning experience. I can certainly show off my friends(50s up) what I have been taught through the internet. haha

#20 (Week 9). Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.

I liked how I could watch the full movie trailer, because on tv its the shortened version. Not all movie trailers are on national tv, so YouTube can be very helpful to look up trailers to decide which movies I can take my children to.
As for what I like about this site is the same as my previous blog which was also about YouTube. The only thing I dislike about YouTube is that I simply can't stop watching because theres so much to see!

#19 (Week 8). Discovering Web 2.0 tools

Out of all the sites, I decided to choose YouTube. I really like this site as when you search for something, suggestions also come up. Also, once all the results have come up, I really like how theres a count on how many times it has been viewed as well as the rating. This site really suprised me with the amount of videos there were and the range they had! They even had old videos of Japanese singers' performing, which I loved to watch as a child. I don't think that YouTube would be great application for the library, but we could link people to tutorials on YouTube for help such as using certain programmes online.

#18 (Week 8). Take a look at some online productivity (word processing, spreadsheet) tools

I think zoho writer is a useful word processor to use, especially for people who do not have a computer at home. But it is very convenient that I can use it without an internet connection. It would be a great place to save documents temporally or to add or edit documents. It was fun just playing around with letters, thinking that I can edit anything the way I like to see in the printed version.

Benjamin Bunny

One morning a little rabbit sat on a bank. He pricked his ears and listened to the trit-trot, trit-trot of a pony.

A gig was coming along the road; it was driven by Mr. McGregor, and beside him sat Mrs McGregor in her best bonnet.

#17 (Week 7) Playing around with PBWiki

I really enjoyed the exercise as it adds to my experience. However at first I was slightly confused as I was unable to comprehend the first task. I thought we were able to directly sign in using the "aclweb20" password, yet I was sadly mistaken. I didn't know that we were required to create an account using that password. After finishing all the tasks I can now sign into the "ACL PB Wiki" page and add links. I think it's great, as I can read others' blogs and see how they are going, I personally view this as a great tool for us librarians to be able to use.

#16 (Week 7). Learn about wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them.

I really enjoy using Wikipedia, its very useful and even has 'simple English' as a language which is great when its written using the topic jargon that you don't quite understand. From reading "Library Success: A Best Practises Wiki", I found it very interesting and think its cool that through wikis us librarians from all over the world can write ideas and such so other librarians can see. Looking at wiki sites every now and again could really benefit us to improving with lots of new ideas.

#15 (week 6) On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

I read "Where will the next generation of the web take libraries??", "Into a new world of librarianship" and "To a temporary place in time".
To me, Library 2.0 is librarians expanding their knowledge of technology so it makes life generally easier for ourselves and patrons. Steriotypically, librarians are seen to only have knowledge about books and authors. But as the years go by, technology and the internet sometimes overtake books due to the internet being so convienient for finding information, if you know how to use it correctly. For the society, we must 'keep-up' with whats new despite our age to guide patrons to the right website or place for their needs. In the future, I see the library to be a place where people come to for advice on things such as finding helpful sites on book forums or any other topic or website.

#14 (week 6) Getting not-so-technical with Technorati

When I searched "Learning 2.0" under posts, lots of random resuls came up that had nothing to do with learning! The results included fashion, business, mapping etc. I noticed that the words I searched were split into "learning" and "2.0", hence the random results. Whereas when I searched "Learning 2.0" under blogs only one result came up. I was relieved when I saw http://learning2.0.elearningplaceblog.com as the single result was the correct one. As an assistant I think we could use this site to help patrons find blogs about what ever their interests may be.

#8 (week 3) Play around with Image Generators

I edited this image using http://www.letterjames.com and browsed around their categories to find an image I liked. I found this easy to use, despite the homepage being a bit confusing at first. Seeing as all I have to do is type in the words I want and the code to preview it, I'm amazed that you can do such things these days.

#7(Week 3). Edit Your Own Images

I firstly googled a picture of 'teapots', I saves the image and then uploaded it onto Picnik. I then clicked on the 'create' tab and then into 'effects'. I playes around with afew but cancelled untill I decided to go with the Matte option. I clicked onto the Valentines Day tab and found a frame with the cute hearts. After that I went into the stickers tab, and added the 3 stickers of the cat, heart, and gingerbread man. I really enjoyed this site and can see myself using this to personalise photos for seasonal cards because its so easy to use! The only thing that wasn't so great about this site is the 'premium' option which restricted me a little.

Week 6 - Del.icio.us

I found Del.icio.us easy to use, although having to create a yahoo account to make a Del.icio.us account was quite a hassle for me. Ignoring that obsticle, I think this site would be very useful to show my friends which sites I'm in to and vice versa. On the side of the bookmark, the numbers that show how many others have bookmarked it is really amazing. Just by browsing around the links on Del.icio.us, I was amazed to find people bookmarking on sites that aren't so mainstream. I wouldn't recommend Del.icio.us as a tool for research assistance, only for general interest.

Twitter Week 5

http://twitter.com/20tulip

I found Twitter very easy and straight foward to use. I really like how there is a blue tick next to celebrities, so then I know that I'm following the real person. Twitter is fun but I don't quite understand the need to so called 'tweet', its like you're just telling everyone what you're doing all the time. Reading what celebrities write, and knowing that they actually wrote it is rather intriguing. I enjoy using Twitter, but I can't imagine myself using this site on a daily basis.

Week 5

My LT Search Box is in my previous post, I would move it to this blog but I wasn't quite sure of how to delete posts on Blogspot.

I really like Library Thing because its so easy to use and is very useful! I was suprised that the correct authors name came up straight after I searched a book title, making it easier for me as a LT user. As an assistant at the library, this site can be very handy. If a patron is asking for me to recommend them a book, I could recommend this site so then they could see what everyone else is reading. Obviously, I'd recommend books I've read also but if their taste is different to mine this site would work well to help them.

My Trading Card

This is the trading card I made. I am so amazed to know that there are sites that can do things like this!

#6 (Week 3)

In Flickr, I like how you can upload your photos with 3rd party applications so that you can share it with all your friends and family that I don't see very often. I very much like the idea of the mashups but for me personally I don't think it would come of much use as I don't tweet very much. Putting my personal life aside, I think that 3rd party tools and mashups work very well together and make it much easier to share the photos you've just uploaded. Whoever thought of these ideas for sites sure must be smart!

Week 4

http://www.google.com/reader/view/#overview-page

This is a link to my Google reader account, I was unsure of how to add it into my blog so I just copied and pasted it here.

I found the RSS very confusing and frustrating, and I'm sure that through time it would be easier to use if you had patience or were a computer wizz. In my own personal life, I could use this to keep myself updated quickly especially when I don't have much time. I think it is a useful site despite it being confusing. People who do use this site could be informed and reminded about events and activites held at the library, giving us more patrons. Overall I find this site the hardest to use compared with the previous sites on the other tasks.

Week 3

http://www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/2913302242/

I looked around Flickr and it seems like a very good site for people with creative minds who want to share their work, as well as people showing their friends their latest photos. I searched "japanese teapots" and found a variety of photos, this one in particular caught my attention. I clicked on it so I could see the image bigger, it wasn't quite what I had in mind but it reminded me of home. It is a very traditional picture and reminds me of my parents home.

I think that Flickr is a very useful site, especially when you're looking to find photos to use on a poster or just for browsing. I found it rather easy to use compared to FaceBook and the other sites from week 2. Sometimes, I felt that the words I searched didn't quite meet my requirements of what I had in mind but it was still a fun experience to know that a site like this exists.

Week 2

Out of the 3 pages, I like Facebook the most. I liked it because afew of my friends also have an account with this site whereas my friends don't with Bebo or MySpace. I found Facebook a little confusing to use at first and still do, but I guess thats because of my age! I have no idea how my teenage kids can be online using Facebook for hours! Despite Facebook being confusing, I still found it more straight foward compared to Bebo and MySpace. As alot of teenagers and adults use these sites, I think that we could advertise our events through these sites so everyone gets the message.

Ready for 2010 web2.0!

Hi, I'm back again for web2.0 for 2010. This time i'm going to do it punctually and hand it in on time. Fingers crossed!
